Romance (any subgenre except historical) and YA. I don’t officially acquire mystery/thriller but it was my focus before coming to Sourcebooks/Bloom, so I’m happy to chat and consult on that, and if it’s YA or has a romance element (like romantic suspense), even better.

Even if a project isn’t a right one for me, I still may be able to provide helpful info/advice to the writer and steer them in a good direction. That said, I represent primarily FICTION for the ADULT market. I’ve always represented historical, women’s historical fiction, romance, mysteries/thrillers/suspense, women’s fiction. I occasionally represent narrative non-fiction (but NOT MEMOIRS). I do represent: children’s books or YA; poetry, screenplays, genre horror or sci fi/fantasy novels. I am also not interested in books that have already been self-published.

They acquire picture books, chapter books, and middle grade, both fiction and non-fiction. They are particularly interested in graphic novels. Their taste is eclectic, but they are always looking for underrepresented voices. They like science and aerospace, natural history, environmental and animal themes, and anything with a touch of magic. A lyrical voice is the surest way to their heart. Not a big fan of crude or bathroom humor, overtly religious stories or historical fiction.

Liv Turner
Editor, Sourcebooks

Liv is actively acquiring both adult fiction and nonfiction titles. On the fiction side, she's looking for stories across all genres, but is especially looking for Upmarket projects that hit the perfect sweet-spot between commercial hook and literary writing. Specifically, she loves: Millenial fiction that explores the often-tumultuous event of being in your 20s and 30s, extra points if there is a swoon-worthy romance and plot that will make her cry. Adelaide, Beautiful World, Where Are You, Maame, and The Idiot come to mind. Huge outdoor and nature writing fan! She’s always looking for stories that meld gripping plot with stunning nature writing and environmental and climate topics (think The Light Pirate). Always fun to see speculative elements here too! Stories that elevate and explore marginalized and underrepresented experiences, stories, and voices. Historical fiction, especially pre-romantic era (big medieval period and magical retelling enthusiast here)! Genre bending fiction that may be a bit dark, speculative, suspenseful, magical, and doesn't fit neatly in any one category. Recent favorites being Weyward, Spells for Forgetting, and One Dark Window. For nonfiction, Liv is looking for: Commercial narrative nonfiction and pop-science, especially as it pertains to nature, climate, ecology, gardening, etc. Accessible and commercial historical narratives are also of immense interest, specifically those that explore and uncover people, places, and ideas that are underrepresented in the archive. Prescriptive nonfiction that might have a spiritual/holistic bent.
